Lady Hounds begin rebuilding process
Look around the MHS gymnasium this week and there are a few noticeable absences from the Lady Hound girls basketball team camp.

What remains is a mostly unheralded but hungry group of returning players who aim to keep the program going in the right direction.
"This year we don't have as many girls with varsity experience," said Maryville head girls coach Grant Hageman. "But I tell you what, they've practiced with us every day for three years now, and they just kind of get it. When you play against that kind of competition in practice every day, you have to get better or practice can get pretty old pretty fast. They're doing a great job and are very coachable. Since the start of camp Tuesday, the girls have been practicing for two hours a day in the mornings and played in their first summer league game at the Maryville Community Center.
Team camp gives Hageman the first and most extensive opportunity of the summer to install next year's playbook.

"This week is kind of a week where we try to mesh everything into four days that we want to accomplish over the summer, so for the younger girls we're introducing a lot of new stuff in a short amount of time," said Hageman. "It's kind of the whole/part teaching method and we're showing them, the whole right now. For our older girls, a lot of it is review, so we're polishing up a couple things, but we're also putting in some new stuff for our older girls.A hats is a head covering used for several reasons. We're going to play a little different style this year, so we're kind of having to revisit some things we've done in the past."
Hageman says he’s leaning toward playing a more up-tempo style next year.
He believes next year's squad could have the requisite amount of depth to pressure opponents for four quarters.
