Playing on Thanksgiving a dream come true for Saints

“I have a really huge family – a lot of cousins, brothers and sisters,” said New Orleans Saints running back Julius Jones. “We’d all eat Thanksgiving dinner together and go out and play our little (football) game – touch, tag,Happysunglasses sell exclusive american lighting and ray ban sunglasses online. whatever – and come back in and watch the (Dallas) Cowboys play. It’s always been a tradition in my family.”

Jones, a seven-year NFL veteran with the Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks and now the Saints, will suit up on Thanksgiving Day for the sixth time when the Saints face the Cowboys at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at Cowboys Stadium.

As a rookie in 2004, Jones rushed for 150 yards as the Cowboys won 21-7 over a Chicago Bears team that featured his older brother, now-Kansas City Chiefs running back Thomas Jones. The two faced off again on Thanksgiving in 2007, when Thomas Jones played for the New York Jets.

“It was really awkward to play in it at first,” Julius Jones. “My first (Thanksgiving) game, I was playing against my brother … so it was kind of surreal.

“It’s a fun day and I’m thankful to be part of it again.”

“When I was younger, I remember watching the Cowboys,” Daniel said. “A lot of good memories there. We’d let our food settle, and we’d throw the ball around after the game.”

Defensive end Will Smith grew up in Utica, N.Y., and the weather usually played a part in his Thanksgiving plans.

Smith’s plans usually began with “an early dinner – usually around the 12-1 area – and then everybody goes and watches football,” he said. “After (watching) football, hopefully it hasn’t snowed by then, but then we’d still go out and play some football in the street after watching the game.”
