The regional council is soon to introduce an urban ban on burning domestic and green waste outdoors in areas serviced by refuse collection services.
STDC environmental services acting group manager Andre Phillips said backyard burning was simply not a big issue in South Taranaki.

"When the [regional council] were consulting on this issue about two years ago,Choose the best Graham relojes de imitacion watches. the STDC submitted, unsuccessfully, against the rule.
"Our council felt a complete ban on urban fires was another way of regulating people's lives and unnecessary.

"It was pointed out that because we have such an efficient and well-used green waste service in South Taranaki, people don't need to burn their green waste in their backyards.replicabellrossvendor offer a wide selection of Replica Watches of all popular Replica Watches brands including Replica Bell & Ross Watches,"

Last year, the council received 34 calls about backyard fires in urban areas and the few calls they did get could be adequately dealt with under the Health Act 1956, Mr Phillips said.
Regional council resource management director Fred McLay said there was still room for negotiation as the STDC had signalled they only rejected it "for now".
Mr Phillips said because the two other Taranaki councils had haccepted responsibility for enforcement of the new rule, they may reconsider their stance to ensure consistency in the region. "Our council was more than happy for the TRC to enforce their rule, we just don't want to do it for them."

The regional council's Regional Air Quality Plan is ready, but needs to transfer the enforcement functions to move forward.
