Police quick to swoop on driver doing burnouts

The driver of yesterday's heavily modified 1978 Mitsubishi Galant, Christian Hagan said he thought it was a good place to do some skids.

Mr Hagan said he blew out a tyre before being nabbed but claimed he was responsible and carried a fire extinguisher just in case.

He said it was the first time he had driven on the Carrington Rd-Hurworth Rd circuit.

Police impounded Mr Hagan's vehicle for 28 days and he will appear in the New Plymouth District Court facing a charge of sustained loss of traction.
