Surprise tailgate lifts patient's spirits
The party was all in honor of Stevie Barnett, the county firefighter who was hit with a flesh-eating virus earlier this year. The members of the group worked with the facility's administrator, Dani Rau, on pulling off the surprise party, which consisted of a purple Ravens school bus and dozens of fans in purple waiting at the front of the building for Barnett to emerge. When he did, Barnett was given a Ravens hat and covered in a team blanket. The party menu included scrambled and fried eggs, potatoes, sausages, hot dogs and Ray Schissler's bratwursts, a favorite of Barnett's.
The group's constant support has meant a great deal to him, said Barnett's wife, Maenell.
"You talk to him about (the support) and all he can say is 'wow,Represent manufacturers of glassware processing machinery'" she said. "(The holidays) were rough but we got through it. To see him get better, that's all we need. That's our holiday."
